Whisky Asset
– Our Story

For centuries, whisky has been the lifeblood of the economy,

Last year in the UK alone it accounted for 22% of UK food and drink exports, while it contributed £7.1bn to the economy.

Now this success has gone global – and a significant part of this has been through the buying, selling and bottling of whisky from casks.

The cask market is often seen as an opportunity to invest in an asset, similar to a bond, which over time – as the Scotch inside the cask matures – can lead to lucrative returns.

But at Whisky Asset, we see single malt whisky not just as an investment opportunity. It is a chance to own a part of Scottish history.

Buyers not brokers
When it comes to whisky cask ownership, many prospective buyers deal with brokers (the intermediaries connecting buyers and sellers).

At Whisky Asset, we have carefully crafted our own unique history based around owning our casks.

We have purchased over 1,000 single malt casks from some of the most famous brands in the world. These include Macallan, Caol Ila, Dalmore, Laphroaig, Port Ellen, Glenlivet, Glenrothes, Mortlach, and Springbank.

As well as a premium cask stock, we bring a higher level of due diligence to the marketplace.
  • All 1,000 casks owned by Whisky Asset are held in the North of Scotland Bonding Warehouse, a secure facility that meets all HMRC’s customs warehousing regulations, and which is approved to store goods under bond.
  • Every cask at North of Scotland is issued with a Delivery Order (DO), a legal document to authorise transfer of ownership to the new cask owner
  • By holding our stock in a single location, it means that every cask owner can visit the warehouse at any time, request samples at any time to taste their single malt, and have their cask bottled instantly at any time
  • If during the tasting process we believe the whisky is not performing the way it should, we actively re-cask.
This customer-centred service offered by Whisky Asset is not seen elsewhere in the market, and comes from the very top of Whisky Asset.

Whisky Asset’s owner
Alberto Lee has decades of experience as a connoisseur of both wine and whisky, and is hugely passionate about the industry in which we operate.

First and foremost he is an enthusiast who only wants to buy the best quality brands available. As a result, every cask at Whisky Asset has been carefully procured by him, as he believes it contains the best single malt that will make a fine drinking whisky once it is finally bottled.

But he realises this process does not just involve a cask purchase, then a long wait to bottling. He wants to make sure the whisky is maturing nicely – when you make a big outlay on a cask, you want to check on its progress.

We positively encourage our clients to come and enjoy their casks, come and check their whisky, or bring friends and associates to the warehouse to sample their single malt.

These are the standards that Alberto would want – and which Whisky Asset provides.
Personal touch from cask to bottle
In order to cater for clients to come and see their whiskies, we have created a boardroom at North of Scotland Bonding so they can sample their product.

We can also host whisky tasting sessions at any time for clients. If they are flying into the country and want to visit the warehouse and sample some whisky, we can arrange that quickly and easily.

It is the ‘personal touch’ and quality service that sets Whisky Asset above the rest.

But above all, Whisky Asset is all about putting whisky into a glass. We want our clients to maximise the value of their purchase by bottling their amazing single malt.

If that means keeping it in a cask for, say, a further six years so a 12-year-old single malt becomes an 18-year-old when bottled, Whisky Asset is happy to accommodate. When you consider that a cask can result in up to 250 bottles of whisky, you can see the level of return that can be generated.

It is, however, very important to highlight that we do not promise or guarantee X amount of returns.

But we preserve our clients’ wealth, and make sure that they from the natural growth of their whisky, from cask to bottle.
